Kaneria, who had dismissed Angelo Mathews (31) just before the tea interval, picked up the wickets of Mahela Jayawardene (79), Chaminda Vaas (four), Rangana Herath (seven) and last man Tillakaratne Dilshan (44) in the final session as Sri Lanka wilted on day two of the final Test in Colombo.

Off-spinner Saeed Ajmal, who had chipped away at the line-up with the wickets of Kumar Sangakkara (45) and Thilan Samaraweera (six), sent back Nuwan Kulasekara in the post-tea session to finish with three for 70.

Jayawardene had staved off capitulation with his determined performance but was bowled by Kaneria first ball after an unscheduled break to receive treatment for cramp.

Dilshan, batting two spots lower down the order to give him more time to recover from a finger injury, then chipped in with a determined and gritty performance.

He frustrated the visitors with a 29-run stand for the last wicket with Thilan Thushara (five not out), reducing the deficit all along.

Dilshan was handed a lucky reprieve when he was caught by Fawad Alam even before he could get off the mark but was ruled not out by umpire Ian Gould.

Dilshan then suffered another injury - a cut above the eye when a delivery from Ajmal slipped through the visor - and was out shortly after, caught by keeper Kamran Akmal while attempting to cut.
